The Clare Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) received planning approval September 2024. The 4-hour 100MW / 400MWh BESS Clare BESS will be co-located with the Clare Solar Farm situated approximately 7 km southwest of Clare and 75 km south-southeast of Townsville, in Northern Queensland. Commissioning is forecast to commence early 2028.
Project Overview
The Clare BESS development will utilise existing connection infrastructure to maximise efficiency and minimise environmental impact unlocking greater value for investors. As the Clare BESS forms a hybrid arrangement utilising the existing point of connection, no significant network augmentation works are required.
Building on Lighthouse Infrastructure’s investment in the Clare region since 2017, this hybrid development strengthens the site’s role as a key contributor to Queensland’s renewable energy transition.
By storing energy generated from the solar farm and dispatching it during periods of peak demand and higher market pricing, the Clare BESS will unlock greater value from renewable generation while supporting grid reliability.
The Clare BESS reflects Lighthouse’s commitment to sustainability and innovation, delivering long-term value for investors and positive outcomes for the environment.
