WHAT IS INFRASTRUCTURE?

Infrastructure assets are generally defined as the large-scale service systems and facilities of a country or region that are necessary for economic activity. The infrastructure sector tends to be separated into two broad groups - economic and social.

Economic infrastructure includes tollroads, airports, seaports, rail, water and seweage facilities, energy generation, distribution and transmission, clean energy infrastructure and telecommunication networks.

Social infrastructure, on the other hand, encompasses schools, universities, hospitals, public housing, prisons and sports stadia.

The assets themselves tend to be single purpose in nature, such as a gas pipeline, tollroad or hospital.
